AppHarvest – Morehead
The greenhouse facility will produce non-GMO fruits and vegetables free of harsh chemical pesticides, to be distributed to top U.S. grocers and restaurants.
Clayco is supporting AppHarvest with design coordination and program management efforts across a wide variety of projects at its first 60-acre 2.76-million-square-foot high-tech Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) farm in Morehead, Kentucky. The two greenhouse structures are separated by a 700,000-square-foot tilt-up precast headhouse that contains the facility’s packaging, shipping, irrigation, fertigation systems, and all employee amenities.
The large-scale indoor farm is estimated to produce about 40 million pounds of tomatoes per year, serving some of the top national grocery store chains and food service outlets.
Because of the company’s strategic location in Appalachia, AppHarvest can reach nearly 70% of the U.S. population in a day’s drive, with up to 80% less diesel fuel compared to existing growers in Mexico and the Southwestern U.S.
