The entertainment complex replaces the former Casino Queen, which was moored along the eastern shore of the Mississippi River.

Clayco, in a joint venture with TW Constructors, completed tilt-up construction of a new 236,000-square-foot Casino Queen gaming facility in East St. Louis. The entertainment complex replaces the former Casino Queen, which was moored along the eastern shore of the Mississippi River. The two-level, structural steel building features 14-foot clear heights, a 38,000-square-foot gaming floor (10,000 square feet larger than the former gambling area), dining facilities that cater to varied tastes and budgets, a coffee bar and a stage bar. Casino patrons can indulge in more than 1,100 slot machines and 34 table games.

To create a floating facility, the team excavated the site and stacked special 4-by-20-foot foam sheets 5 feet high for the entire footprint of the approximately 30,000-square-foot gaming area. Concrete was then poured almost a foot thick, an under-floor duct was installed, followed by more poured concrete. Upon completion of the gaming floor, approximately 340,000 gallons of water was added to the excavated basin. This allows the gaming area to float while carefully moored at strategic points, creating a one-of-a-kind “boat in a moat.”
