Clayco provided construction management for the 116,000-square-foot Danforth University Center at Washington University. The facility features a reinforced concrete structure with a granite stone facade, complementing the Collegiate Gothic architecture displayed throughout the Washington University campus. The project involved three distinct but intertwined components: the demolition of Prince Hall, the construction of a three-story underground garage, and the Danforth University Center (DUC) project, located directly above the parking structure. Clayco completed the entire three-phase project in just 26 months.

The university center offers students and staff a vibrant place to meet, relax and spark inspiration and creativity. The facility houses WUTV-TV, the Student Life newspaper, the student union, student and faculty dining areas, conference rooms, campus life offices, a game room and a common area.

The facility achieved LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and was the first LEED Gold building on the Danforth campus. LEED certified construction is part of the University’s strategy to reduce its environmental impact, manage its financial resources and improve indoor environments. Other LEED projects that Clayco has worked on for Washington University in St. Louis include Stephen F. and Camilla T. Brauer Hall (LEED Gold), South 40 Village (Phase I – LEED Silver; Phase II – LEED Gold), and Preston M. Green Hall at Washington University School of Engineering (LEED Gold).
