Holten Meat Expansion Phase II

Sauget, Illinois

This facility is divided into a temperature-controlled manufacturing area, a distribution zone and an office wing with a laboratory and full-service test kitchen.

Clayco design-built a technologically advanced food processing and distribution center for Holten Meat, Inc. in Sauget Business Park in Sauget, Illinois. The 83,533-square-foot facility is divided into a temperature-controlled manufacturing area, a distribution zone and a 17,000-square-foot office wing with a laboratory and full-service test kitchen. The kitchen is used to confirm that the taste, texture and overall appearance of various Holten meat products meet its standards for high quality. The laboratory test food to ensure it meets Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines for freshness and sanitation. Understanding the relationships and traffic patterns between these areas was critical to providing a logical flow of product and workforce.

In 2004, Clayco completed a 88,000-square-foot addition to the facility, which more than doubled the original size of the facility.

As the turnkey, design-build contractor, Clayco handled all architectural, engineering, construction coordination and interior finish. After construction of the facility was complete, Clayco installed the product manufacturing lines in three phases over an eight-week period.
