Clayco provided design-build services for the 143,000-square-foot renovation and expansion of this United States Postal Service Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC). The Royal Oak P&DC project consisted of a renovation of the former 143,000-square-foot P&DC facility into a hybrid building used for corporate office space and a carrier annex for local delivery operations.
Located northwest of Detroit, the single-story renovation featured a major upgrade in energy conservation along with an overall update of interior finishes and exterior function. Building upgrades required full Michigan Occupational Safety and Health (MIOSHA) compliant removals of existing asbestos plank flooring.
The project not only expanded the amenities available at the facility, but also featured a high-performance building envelope; high-efficiency HVAC; lighting and controls, use of a high percentage of recycled content and regional materials; storm water mitigation measures; and use of high-performance plumbing fixtures.
