Clayco’s use of ground breaking design build technology helped bring construction innovation together with Korean technology and automotive innovation to produce this 400,000-square-foot state-of-the-art battery manufacturing facility for XALT Energy (Dow Kokam). The high-tech, world-scale manufacturing facility produces affordable lithium-ion batteries to supply the growing electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) market. The manufacturing facility enables the company to bring to market the most reliable and consistent energy solutions for its customers.
The XALT Energy battery plant project was developed in two overlapping construction phases. Phase I of construction features more than 400,000-square-feet of space and provides industrial manufacturing operations for advanced batteries for high-performance, high-end vehicles. The single-story manufacturing plant includes 45-foot clear heights and clean-dry rooms to facilitate unique manufacturing processes. Phase II added 600 million additional watt-hours and incorporated battery pack assembly equipment and production.
The manufacturing plant development was built with insulated tilt-up concrete wall systems and features glass exterior design elements.
Through technology our team worked with our customer to visualize and reimagine how the facility would be designed, built and operated. We guided our engineering partners from the US and South Korea though an intimate and collaborative relationship centered around trust. This helped us create a relationship dynamic that allowed us to remain efficient and effective, even with the sensitive and technical nature of the plant process area.
