Incorporating Nature, Transforming Healthcare

Mercy Virtual Care Center brings together more than 480 physicians, nurses, specialists, researchers and support staff to deliver 24/7 care through audio, video, and data connections to locations nationwide. Marking the beginning of a transformational approach to healthcare, the state-of-the-art facility is the first building on the 40-acre, integrated Mercy campus that reunites and facilitates learning, ministry, telemedicine, and clinical care. The center was carefully positioned to preserve existing, mature trees that provide natural shading to the building’s south and west exposures while also offering an amazing outdoor experience for the facility’s occupants. The floor-to-ceiling exterior glass design allows wonder and daylight to visually enter the building so a symbiosis between man and nature will occur and is representative of the transparency of the Mercy mission and accessibility to their services.

Mackey Mitchell Architects

Mackey Mitchell believes in the strength of a passionate team and that collaboration is key. For Mackey Mitchell, the process of design is a journey of discovery that facilitates their clients’ dreams and enhances the broader community. Clayco has teamed with Mackey Mitchell on a broad range of academic work.

Fostering Community by Creating Sustainable Environments

Over the last century, as Washington University grew in stature, the on-campus residential areas were less than a preferred choice for undergraduates. Mackey Mitchell was engaged, along with Clayco, to reimagine and create an entirely new experience for on-campus housing. The South 40 Housing and Dining project is a four-building village that transforms the South 40 neighborhood from a lackluster residential area into a vibrant, award-winning, living and learning community. A major goal for the 355,228-square-foot, $157 million, LEED Gold project was to define and create an attractive pedestrian “spine,” a vital axis carrying the neighborhood’s 3,300 students to the main Hilltop campus.

Gensler

As a leading collaborative design firm, Gensler utilizes architectural design reflective of its knowledge for how people and organizations use and experience place and space. Gensler has teamed with us on the most complex developments in the country, including the Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) Headquarters.

Reflecting Mathematical Design in Corporate Development

A two-building campus set on a natural site in Chesterfield, Missouri, the Reinsurance Group of America Global Headquarters is an interactive workplace that accommodates the needs for flexibility and growth appropriate to a Fortune 500 company. The design reflects the mathematical work of the actuary, one of RGA’s business units, by manipulating a pattern of glass on two simple office buildings over an amenity base that mediates the site’s complex 70-foot slope. That slope allows the majority of the campus’ parking to be hidden underground, increasing the usable area for another expansion phase. Clayco-Gensler incorporated state-of-the-art security features, a café seating 500 people, and a 2,500-square-foot fitness facility to enhance tenant satisfaction and workplace flexibility.

CannonDesign

Globally recognized as an integrated design firm, CannonDesign’s singular goal is to help solve not only the greatest client challenges, but also those of society. To date, the firm continues to work with Clayco on a massive number of projects ranging from cold storage facilities to office buildings.

Infusing Environmental Stewardship through Design

The world leader in developing soy-based technologies and ingredients, Solae required a new global headquarters with 80,000 square feet of state-of-the-art research labs, 70,000 square feet of office space, and a 15,000-square-foot pilot plant. Clayco and CannonDesign’s project team utilized design and construction strategies reflective of the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Improved indoor air quality, locally sourced materials, construction waste reduction, increased daylight, and energy-efficient electrical and HVAC systems contributed to the project’s LEED accreditation.

Succeeding with Sustainable Building Practices

HOK provided design and landscape architecture services for Centene Plaza. The 21-story, 550,000-square-foot, mixed-use project included Class A offices as well as retail and restaurant amenities in the tower base. The building and pedestrian entertainment plaza feature striking artwork by Liam Gillick, such as an illuminated colored glass canopy connecting the 12-story garage to the office tower. The plaza’s decorative landscaping provides outdoor seating, a waterfall and a fire pit. The design of Centene Plaza is an advancement in the high-rise commercial office building model by creating a flexible, adaptable workspace contained within a modern, sustainable envelope. As a national healthcare provider, Centene’s commitment to sustainability and healthy living drove its desire to construct a high-performance, LEED-registered facility. With features like a “green” roof with 20,000 square feet of soil and use of both recycled and regional materials, it became the region’s first multi-tenant building to earn a LEED® Gold rating.
