Amazon Sorting Facility – Baltimore

Amazon chose Clayco to partner with on this very complex, fast track project. Amazon is an American international multibillion dollar electronic commerce company, and is the world’s largest online retailer.

Clayco constructed a new AR Sorting facility for Amazon on 74 acres of land in Sparrows Point, Maryland. While the footprint of the building is 857,444 square feet, with mezzanines throughout, the total building is 1,119,833 square feet under roof. This includes a total combined warehouse and main office areas of over 58,601 square feet.

The structure is made up of precast wall panels, structural steel, and has both an EPDM and PTO mechanically attached single ply roof system. The truck docks and dolly pads are concrete pavement, while the remainder of the site is asphalt pavement. In total, there are 63 dock door positions and 2 drive-in doors. HVAC, electrical, and plumbing were hard bid, while the fire protection was design assist.

The building was built on an old existing foundations of a steel mill and involved extensive underground demolition to install utilities.
