Clayco provided design-build services for an $81 million athletic complex at Saint Louis University’s midtown campus. The 320,000-square-foot multi-purpose arena is home to Billiken men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball, as well as concerts, family shows, trade shows, commencements and other events. Clayco delivered turnkey results on an aggressive schedule, completing construction one month ahead of the initial completion date.
Featuring the second largest capacity in the Atlantic 10 Conference, the arena includes a three-story athletic office and a blue victory light on the roof that is activated after each Billiken home victory. Different from other multi-purpose facilities, the building is integrated into the surrounding landscape. With the event floor built about 25 feet below grade, the scale of the building merges comfortably with the surrounding context. Furthermore, the building evokes a user-friendly and energetic atmosphere through a single-level, glass-encased concourse. The 10,600-seat arena also features 14 suites, two party rooms and an event-level club with dinner seating for up to 175 guests.
