SCAD Indian Street

This project is a 250,000-square-foot residence hall between West River Street and West Indian Street in Savannah, directly adjacent to Alexander Hall.

The site is close to several of SCAD’s facilities, marking a significant student population in the area with no nearby student housing. This project provides housing for students near these academic facilities and is a statement building visible from downtown Savannah, Georgia.

The concept for the building mimics that of SCAD Forty, which opened on the Atlanta campus in Fall 2019. The design provides 804 beds in typical two-bedroom, four-person semi-suites, and 14 beds in studio single units, for a total of 818 beds. On the first floor, the dining hall serves residents, as well as students using nearby academic buildings. Similar to SCAD Forty, this project offers a penthouse on the top floor that functions as an event space and a roof deck looking south towards downtown.

This project is nestled on the west end of downtown with splendid views of the Savannah River and the historic district.

Additional elements include a convenience store, a housing suite with offices for Resident Directors, a conference room, and a central laundry room. Each residential floor has a central common lounge, a small study lounge at the end of each corridor, and alternating data/electrical rooms. The event space will have a pre-function lobby, catering kitchen, public restrooms, AV room, and storage space.

The design architect for the garage is LJC and the design architect for the residence hall is Mackey Mitchell.  Clayco was the design-build contractor for both and the 6th project Clayco has done for SCAD.
