Clayco completed a 592,311-square-foot distribution facility in Terrell, Texas for AutoZone. Developed by The Walker Companies of Atlanta, the project was built on an aggressive time frame, with partial occupancy scheduled for just 168 days after the start of construction. The facility is located in the Airport Industrial Park, a business park owned by the Terrell Economic Development Corp.

Before beginning construction, Clayco had to “moisture condition” the building pad and paving areas to treat the highly expansive clay soil conditions native to the region. This required Clayco to move over 400,000 cubic yards of earth before beginning foundation work.

Featuring tilt-up concrete and structural steel construction, the new facility has 28,000 square feet of office space, a 32,634-square-foot flammables storage area and an 18,784-square-foot aerosols storage room. The remainder of the space – the distribution area – has 75 dock positions with six additional exterior dock positions and 13 knockout panels. Additionally, the facility is fully racked and has three three-level pick modules.

Situated on a 66-acre site with parking for 495 cars and 130 trailers, the building was constructed with the ability to be expanded by an additional 297,840 square feet.
