Construction has begun on Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Center’s new adolescent inpatient services building.

Clayco broke ground on the new 27,000-square-foot facility in Echo Park, Los Angeles, California in Q1 of 2025. This expansion will add 37 inpatient beds, making Gateways one of the largest providers of acute adolescent mental health services in Los Angeles County. The new Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric Center will offer specialized, no-cost services for at-risk youth facing serious emotional or behavioral issues, including gender-diverse individuals experiencing acute psychiatric emergencies.

The expansion project is supported by a $19.2 million grant from BHCIP, aiming to address gaps in care and create sustainable improvements for county residents. Gateways’ program focuses on reaching at-risk youth, offering comprehensive behavioral and social services to guide them toward wellness and prevent pathways to homelessness or incarceration.
