Clayco completed an East Coast distribution hub in White Oak Technology Park for Hewlett-Packard Supplies After Market (HPSAM). Developed by Panattoni Development Co., the $18 million distribution hub includes two buildings, totaling 640,000 square feet. The buildings are designed to give HPSAM the option of adding manufacturing operations in the future. HPSAM uses the facilities to warehouse and distribute more than 300 different types of Hewlett-Packard products, including CD-ROMS, computer discs and accessories for HP`s laser and ink jet printers to U.S. locations east of the Mississippi River, Canada and Latin America.
The 340,000-square-foot building at 4000 Technology Court has 17,000 square feet of office space and 323,000 square feet of warehouse and distribution space. The 300,000-square-foot building at 4500 Technology Court includes 1,200 square feet of office space an 298,800 square feet of warehouse and distribution space. Both feature 30-foot clear-height ceilings and a total of 80 dock doors, which could be nearly doubled in the future.
The one-story buildings connect to form an “L” and are constructed using tilt-up concrete panels in three tones of gray. The entrance to the building at 4000 Technology Court features a 43-foot-high wall of gray tinted glass. The buildings are adjacent to three buildings HP uses to manufacture and distribute laser jet printers. Combined, the buildings enclose more than 1.5 million square feet.
In addition to constructing the building, Clayco completed Technology Court, which intersects with Technology Boulevard, the main thoroughfare in the business park. According to Jan McDaniel, HP facilities manager, the road was especially challenging because it traversed a protected wetlands. “An environmental inspector for the county was on site daily to make sure specifications were met,” said McDaniel. “Clayco did a wonderful job of taking extra care to conform to guidelines.”
