The facility is divided into a temperature-controlled manufacturing area, a distribution zone, and a 17,000-square-foot office wing with a laboratory and full-service test kitchen.

Clayco provided design-build services for this advanced food processing and distribution center for Holten Meat, Inc., the highest volume frozen certified Angus beef patty producer in the United States. The facility is divided into a temperature-controlled manufacturing area, a distribution zone, and a 17,000-square-foot office wing with a laboratory and full-service test kitchen. The kitchen is used to confirm the taste, texture and overall appearance of various Holten Meat products meet the company’s standards for high quality. The laboratory tests food to ensure it meets Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines for freshness and sanitation. Understanding the relationships and traffic patterns between these areas was critical to providing a logical flow of product and workforce.

Constructed using light gray concrete tilt-up panels, the single-story facility is accented by a series of red squares at the roof line and a smoke gray glass curtainwall system at the entry. As the turnkey, design-build contractor, Clayco handled all architectural, engineering, construction coordination and interior finish work. After construction was completed, Clayco installed the product manufacturing lines in three phases over an eight-week period. Clayco later completed a $10 million, 88,000-square-foot addition for Holten Meat.
