Clayco was awarded this $35 million project for Penn State’s new parking garage and loop road on the west side of the medical center campus.

This construction project allowed the health system to accommodate continued growth on the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus. As the Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine campus undertakes several key expansion projects, including a planned research and education facility, demand for additional parking has increased. The new parking structure provided for planned growth and replaced parking lost to building expansion and construction.

Inspired by the rolling hills of Pennsylvania, the waving spandrels of the building façade are the first architectural element noticed as one drives into the medical health campus. Positioned with prime real estate, the team had a goal for the West campus to improve upon the daily experience of campus arrival and the half-mile walk to the College of Medicine’s main entrance.

The parking garage was built on an existing ground-level parking lot adjacent to the University Fitness Center. It will add more than 1,200 parking spaces and be engineered to support expansion if necessary. The new loop road provides convenient access to that garage, as well as the west side of campus and the planned Penn State College of Medicine Innovation Pavilion.

Safety is Our First Priority

This Penn State Garage jobsite recently held an evacuation drill followed by a safety lunch. The drill was a success and the safety lunch was our way of saying congratulations to the crew for going 195 days OSHA recordable free. There was also a raffle with prizes for those who exemplified what it means to be Clayco Safe.
