The design-build firm Clayco + Poettker JV partnered with LJC and CannonDesign as the lead architects on SIUE’s new health sciences building.

This latest facility on Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s campus is 176,000 square feet and accommodates the School of Pharmacy and the School of Nursing. The project consists of a three-story health sciences building that offers space for offices, academic classrooms, synthetic chemistry, nursing wet lab, pharmacogenomics, biochemistry, vivarium, and microbiology.

Activity began on site in spring 2023, with construction fully commencing in the fall. The project was completed at the end of summer 2025. The Illinois Capital Development Board oversaw the project in accordance with the protocol for state-appropriated construction projects.

The Health Sciences Complex at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is a transformative project designed to advance healthcare education and interdisciplinary collaboration. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a central hub for the School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, and other health sciences programs, including Public Health and Occupational Therapy.

The Health Sciences Complex represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare education in southern Illinois. By consolidating key health programs into a single, modern facility, SIUE aims to enhance interdisciplinary education, expand research capabilities, and better serve the healthcare needs of the region.
