Clayco constructed a 174,584-square-foot perishable food distribution center for SUPERVALU, Inc. in Champaign, Illinois. The facility, built of tilt-up concrete and insulated metal panels, was a fast-track, turnkey project completed in seven months. A 155,000-square-foot climate controlled area with five separate temperature/humidity zones is divided into segregated and certified organic produce sections and contains 18 three-story-high banana-ripening rooms. The facility also features a computerized voice retrieval system that communicates orders to forklift operators in their native languages, a 70-foot clear span dock bay, 9,600-square-foot office and employee break room area, and a 10,800-square-foot maintenance area.
