Clayco was the design-builder for Sweetheart Cup’s new 909,094-square-foot regional distribution center in University Park, Illinois. The facility was the first project to be constructed in the USAA Commerce Center.
Clayco provided complete site selection services for 15 competing sites prior to the selection of USAA Commerce Center, a 250-acre park located 20 miles south of Chicago. The $20 million facility, developed by USAA Real Estate Company, replaced an older Sweetheart Cup facility and provided for expansion. The new one-level, precast concrete and structural steel facility features state-of-the-art fire protection, lighting and environmental controls.
The University Park location is the third Sweetheart Cup design-build project for Clayco. The firm previously completed a 250,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution center conversion in North Andover, Massachusetts, for Sweetheart Cup’s plastic and foam cup line. Clayco also assisted Sweetheart Cup in consolidating five warehouse operations into a new 1.03 million-square-foot Mid-Atlantic Distribution Facility in Hampstead, Maryland. Like the University Park project, the final site selected by Sweetheart Cup was one of several that Clayco analyzed over a 12-month period.
