Sweetheart Cup is consolidating five warehouse operations into a new 1,030,000-square-foot Mid-Atlantic Distribution Facility.
The facility contains approximately 7,000 square feet of offices, 32-foot clear heights, and 85 dock door locations. The building utilizes state-of-the-art sprinkler technology by using the new K-25 E.S.F.R. sprinkler heads to protect the building from the plastic commodities stored inside. The building code would not allow this height of storage with a standard sprinkler system and spear headed the building code approval process, fulfilling Sweetheart’s storage requirement. Clayco helped sponsor the Factory Mutual testing of these sprinkler heads.
The final site was one of several that Clayco analyzed over a 12 month period for Sweetheart. Clayco’s turnkey services also provided a master plan for three additional buildings totaling 800,000 square feet on the remainder of the 140-acre site. Each building is served by rail.
